Data ethics

Deaf-led quality

Deaf reviewers have final say on community-facing dictionary quality. Teachers and technical reviewers support but do not override Deaf linguistic authority.

Consent-first

No video enters training, research, or public exports without recorded consent and completed review appropriate to the use.

No language mixing

Arabic and English datasets, labels, and production models are kept separate to preserve linguistic integrity.

Transparency

Dataset exports include manifest metadata, consent flags, version IDs, and known limitations. Researchers must cite Mathla and respect participant choices.

Community benefit

We prioritize accessibility outcomes for Deaf communities — commercial use of contributor data without consent is prohibited.
